Board of Education to Appoint Mr. Donté Hayes as District Treasurer

Donté HayesMr. Donté HayesApril 29, 2024—The Shaker Heights Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Donté Hayes as the District’s next Treasurer, effective August 1, 2024. Mr. Hayes’s appointment is expected to be approved by the Board of Education at a special meeting on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Mr. Hayes succeeds Bryan C. Christman, who retired in 2023 after serving 24 years. Shelley McDermott has served as Interim Treasurer since Mr. Christman’s retirement. 

Mr. Hayes, currently Assistant Treasurer for the South Euclid-Lyndhurst School District, is a seasoned professional with a wide range of experience in school finance, accounting, education grants and budgets. In his current role, Mr. Hayes oversees the day-to-day finances of his district, manages the treasurer’s department staff and helps building-level personnel develop school finance skills.

Ms. McDermott's guidance has ensured that the Treasurer’s office remains as strong as ever.”

“The District administration welcomes Mr. Hayes to the leadership team,” said Superintendent Dr. David Glasner. “His experience will serve the needs of the District well as we move forward  Thanks to Mr. Christman and Ms. McDermott, he will be part of a highly professional department that has been an excellent steward of District finances.”

Before coming to South Euclid-Lyndhurst, Mr. Hayes served in several positions in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, including Director of Accounting, Interim Director of Grant Funded Programs, Manager of Budgets and Internal Auditor. Prior to that, he served as Controller of Dining Services for Compass Group USA/Chartwells at Cleveland State University.

Mr. Hayes earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ursuline College and a certificate of education finance from Georgetown University.
