The Honorable Marcia L. Fudge (SHHS '71) Named 2024 Commencement Speaker

The Honorable Marcia L. FudgeThe Honorable Marcia L. FudgeThe Shaker Heights Schools and Shaker Schools Foundation are pleased to announce that the Honorable Marcia L. Fudge, former Secretary of the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, will serve as the commencement speaker for the Class of 2024. Commencement takes place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Cleveland State University’s Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein Center.
 
As the 18th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and throughout her career as a mayor and member of Congress, she has worked to help low-income families, seniors, and communities not only in Ohio, but throughout the country. In 1999, she was elected as the first female and first African American Mayor of Warrensville Heights. Her career in public service began in the Cuyahoga County’s Prosecutor’s Office.
 
Fudge served as U.S. Representative for the 11th Congressional District of Ohio from 2008 to March 2021. She was a member of several congressional committees and served as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus in 2012.
 
Fudge is a proud member of the Shaker Heights High School class of 1971. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business from The Ohio State University and law degree from the Cleveland State University College of Law. She is also a proud member and Past National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
