On behalf of the Board of Education, the staff, and the children we serve, I want to thank the community for the passage of the operating levy. We are relieved about the outcome and grateful to the community for its support.

It is clear that Shaker residents care deeply about our children and want us to maintain the quality for which the Shaker schools are known. It is also clear, from the conversations we have had with voters, that they want us to continue to be aggressive in containing costs. The Board and staff are committed to both of these objectives.

We knew we would have to work very hard to pass this levy. Voters asked for a lot of information, and we provided more information than in any campaign I can recall. I believe this made a big difference.

We also know that is a high degree of voter frustration with the way Ohio funds its schools. The overreliance on property taxes and repeated levies have to end. The Board and staff are committed to working with residents, organizations, and other school districts to turn this energy into heightened pressure on our lawmakers to get it fixed once and for all.

We want to thank the many volunteers – parents, staff, empty-nesters, and students -- who worked so hard on behalf of this levy.  It has been truly gratifying to see residents from different backgrounds and different neighborhoods unite in support of our children and our schools.
