February 2, 2010 - Twenty-one Shaker Heights High School students participated in the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in January. Sarah Cook, Pearl Ernat, Kate Friedman, Emily Hirsch, Kristofer Jackson, Liz Jacob, Jordan Lang, Rachel McKinzie, Isabella McKnight, Nia Morgan, Ian Murphy, David Neary, Matthew Neary, Ilana Polster, Heidi Reis, Abby Sheeran, Ana Sinicariello, Emma Snape, Ayush Sood, Alyx Wagner, and Annabel Wang participated in twenty hours of committee session and debate at one of the most competitive conferences in the United States. More than 2,200 students representing over 100 schools from nine different countries attended.
Kristofer Jackson, representing Lebanon on the Special Political and Decolonization Committee received a verbal commendation as did Annabel Wang, who represented Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden on the Somali Cabinet.
High School faculty members Tony Cuda and Stacey Steggert, who serve as advisors to the Junior Council on World Affairs, helped prepare students for the conference.
